Who can apply?

Our client group primarily consists of people who have formerly held occupations requiring a degree of responsibility and education.

Applicants must be of British or Irish nationality, or residents of the United Kingdom or Ireland.

This includes:

• People of British or Irish nationality

• People who live the majority of the time (and for at least half of each year) in the UK or Ireland.

This excludes people in the UK or Ireland:

• On a temporary short term basis, for personal or work reasons
• To study at university or college
• To claim asylum but whose application for asylum has been declined or has not yet been determined.

Where there is any doubt, Elizabeth Finn Care staff will seek the advice of the Director of Elizabeth Finn Grants before accepting or rejecting an application.

This means that we may have to ask an applicant to demonstrate that they have been resident in the UK or Ireland for at least 6 of the last 12 months.

We can give grants to those whose jobs required education equating to NVQ Level 4 and above. For those people who were working before these qualifications existed, there is a wide range of occupations within our client group listed below.

We can also help you if your partner (current or past) meets or met our eligibility criteria during his or her working life.  Therefore, if your partner may have qualified for our help, so may you.

Everyone who applies to us is assessed individually. So if, for example, we know of an organisation that is better placed to help you or can do more, we will refer you to them at the outset. We will also direct you to our Turn2us services for a benefits check to ensure you are getting your full entitlement (any grant we give you will not affect any benefits you receive).
