Marathon Runner Robert Joslin
Robert  is a headhunter and owner of recruitment firm from South London, age 27

I ran the Marathon last year and this year I want to beat my time! It’s a good feeling to train for something as challenging as the Marathon, and an even better one to know you’re raising money for a really worthwhile cause.

I got my place running for Elizabeth Finn Care after being referred by a friend. Since then, I’ve found out more about the charity and have been really impressed by the work Elizabeth Finn Care does. Working in recruitment, I’ve come across plenty of people who’ve found themselves in pretty difficult situations because of the economic climate. Elizabeth Finn Care is a really relevant charity for the current market conditions.

Strangely enough, I prefer doing all the training to the actual day of the run! I genuinely really enjoy training. It’s a great excuse to start the year off well and detox after over-doing it at Christmas and New Year. I also like to have a goal to focus on. I’m running about 5 times a week at the moment. It feels like a really positive way to get fit and healthy.

I’ve emailed friends and clients and used my LinkedIn account to get the initial donations in. After I’ve completed the Marathon, I hope my time will impress everyone and get them to raise a bit more money. On the day, I’ll have support from my Mum and Dad, who are coming up from Somerset to watch, my brothers, my girlfriend and my friends. It’ll be great to have them cheer me on.
