Elizabeth Biberian
Elizabeth Biberian is from Scotland. Six years ago Elizabeth suffered a brain stem stroke. This left her paralysed in the left side of her body and permanently confined to a wheelchair. A further result of her condition is that she has double vision, which means she cannot read or watch television, and such severe tinnitus that she cannot listen to music or the radio. One of Elizabeth’s few joys used to be her garden, but with no wheelchair access down from her house even this simple pleasure was taken away.
Then Elizabeth found us. We gave Elizabeth back her independence by providing funding for a ramp from her house to her garden and one leading to road outside. This means she can enjoy her garden again and also has easier access to the outside world.
“My patio and ramp are an endless joy to me - it represents so much to do with independence and moving on.”
Despite her impaired vision caused by the stroke, Elizabeth is able to use a computer with the appropriate screen settings. Being unable to watch television or listen to the radio, the computer is Elizabeth’s link to the world and she orders her grocery shopping online each week. A few months ago we financed the purchase of a new computer when Elizabeth’s stopped working, allowing her to continue living an independent life.
