Celebrities don tea cosies over a cuppa for a good cause
Immediate Release: 21 April 2009
One of the UK’s largest grant-giving charities to combat poverty, Elizabeth Finn Care, launched its biggest fundraising event to date with a celebrity tea party at Fortnum & Mason on Monday 20 April.
Stars, including Lionel Blair, Burt Kwouk, Francoise Pascal and Jenny Hanley, as well as staff at the world famous department store, all donned tea cosies on their heads in a bid to encourage others to ‘Wear A Tea Cosy To Work’ on Friday 8 May.
The event forms part of Elizabeth Finn Care’s wider ‘Big Tea Cosy’ campaign, which runs from 4-10 May and aims to bring people together over a cuppa whilst raising funds for the charity, which has seen a dramatic increase in applications for grants since the onset of the recession.
Actor come dancer, Lionel Blair, known to a generation for starring on hit TV shows Give us a Clue and Name that Tune, is one of Elizabeth Finn Care’s most vibrant celebrity ambassadors.
Blair said of the event: ‘This morning was lots of fun - in my sixty years in show business, I never imagined a time where I would be wearing a tea cosy on my head - but let’s not forget that we are living through difficult times and the work of Elizabeth Finn Care is more vital than ever. Wearing a tea cosy to work on Friday 8 May represents an inexpensive and light-hearted way to help people in poverty; I really hope people get behind this.’
